AN ASSOCIATION OF BLACK ENTREPRENEURS IN MINING, INCLUDING SUPPLIERS AND PROFESSIONALS IN THE MINING INDUSTRY IN SOUTHERN AFRICA
The South African Black Mining Association NPC (The SABMA) is a voluntary organisation formed by a group of black entrepreneurs in mining, including suppliers and professionals in the mining industry, who are facing various challenges in the sector, with the sole intent to support, empower and advance the Black and Emerging Mining sector in South Africa. The mining industry serves as an important catalyst for economic growth, creator of foreign direct investment, foreign remittances and is a key job creator in Southern Africa. We believe there is a dire need for a united, passionate and specific voice to duly represent our members in the industry.

Business Linkages
SABMA's main aim is to create local and global business opportunities and linkages for business development, networking, partnerships, investments and operational capacity for our members in mining. Whether they require a business and transaction advisory, mining license, technical support, human resource support, investors, suppliers or buyers, we have a strong database of mines, suppliers and investors to support their needs and more. SABMA has created a strong database that seeks to provide our members with capacity to deliver.
Membership and Listing
When you register as a member, you have the option to be listed as a supplier (so that large mining companies can procure from you), a professional ( to be sourced as an affirmative candidate ro strategic consultant) or miner ( to be accessed for investments, incentives, grants and mining partnerships) or as an investor to find investment opportunities in the mining sector in Southern Africa. This listing is accessible on the MEMBERS ONLY area in the SABMA website and on our Mobile Connect app. Our resource page, member listing and app are available only for registered members.
Trade Missions & Pavillions
SABMA has a strong affiliation with The DTI, Department of Mineral Resources and Energy and other strategic departments of government and is always kept abreast with upcoming global trade missions and programmes by government. It is task our to arrange our member mining entrepreneurs to join these missions and pavilions to advance their businesses and be empowered. These trade missions are for registered SABMA members that seek to attend global events to meet potential business partners, investors and suppliers in order to advance their mines or businesses.
Events & Networking
SABMA hosts a number of networking, topical and recognition events annually. They range from our conference, awards, breakfast meetings, roundtables and golf days to encourage regional and national networking. SABMA through the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Minerals and Resources facilitates to take a number of black entrepreneurs in mining to travel with government to various local and global conferences for networking, business opportunities and investments sourcing.
SABMA Academy
SABMA Academy is the training and development department which seeks to empower youth, women, black entrepreneurs and suppliers in the mining industry with various skills that help them become successful in the mining sector. The academy works with the SITAs, government agencies such as SEDA as well as enterprise development managers and corporate social responsibility departments of various mines to empower our members with skills development and traning
SABMA Fund
Mining operations and setting up of mines can be very expensive. We understand black history in SA and the disadvantages that it has brought to our people. SABMA through is fund partners is raising a R5 Billion Fund to finance our members through a network of third party investors and funds to assist black entrepreneurs in mining to acquire assets and other professional services that will assist to successfully mine or provide services to the mining industry. The Fund is sourced globally from various strategic parties.
Youth Placement Programme
The Youth Placement Service programme adopted by SABMA seeks to introduce the youth of South Africa in to the mining sector, by placing them as interns in mining organisations and small businesses so that they acquire experience and skills in the mining sector. This programme also empowers smme's with capacity by placing young people who are already paid by the programme thus reducing salary costs.
SABMA Connect App
SABMA will be launching its business linkages app on the 31th August 2023 at the Government vs Business Golf Challenge at Blue Valley. The App will be a super app that connects black suppliers with all the mines in Southern Africa, as well as connect local and global investors to the mining industry in Southern Africa. It will ensure that deals are happening at the palm of their hands with strong mobile business facilitation systems.
Purchase Order Financing
SABMA understands that sometimes entrepreneurs in the mining sector face liquidity challenges, that is why it offers invoice discounting and purchase order financing to assist them to full-fill obligations. SABMA has strong partners that assist entrepreneurs with purchase order up to the value of R100 Million in financing. SABMA also assist entrepreneurs with asset based financing for quicker access to funds.
Mentorship & Coaching
Most black entrepreneurs that enter the mining space find themselves with a permit or a mining opportunity without any mentorship or business coaching. They ended up making costly decisions theat can make them lose a lot of money. SABMA has a team of highly experienced mining professionals, contractors and entrepreneurs that have been mining for years. As a member of the association, you will benefit from that wealth of experience from these like-minded individuals.
Plant Acquisition Programme
SABMA understands that sometimes entrepreneurs in the mining sector face challenges with the means of production such as plant hire and acquisition, mining technical skills, and a support team on the ground. SABMA has partnered with number of plant manufacturers to make it easy for these entrepreneurs to acquire plant and reduce their leasing costs which are currently crippling their profitability.
Mine Restructuring & Rescue
Many entrepreneurs in mining are faced with challenges of their mines requiring serious investments, otherwise they will face closure and liquidation. SABMA has access to team of business turnaround specialists and rescue practitioners who can assist distressed mines. The team will assist in restructuring the business, find new investors or manage creditors and any other parties threatening closure of the mine. The team will re-engineer and restructure the business for success.

The Mining Financing and Investment Summit will be hosted on 22 October 2025 at The Core Sandton in Sunninghill. The summit will bring together various stakeholders to unpack financing opportunities in the mining sector, from banks, local and international investors, OEM's, corporate finance specialists, business restructuring and legal advisors for mergers and acquisitions, government and enterprise development financiers and practitioners. ESD Mining Breakfast Meeting 2026
